Computing Rationale
We are all part of an increasingly digital world and new technologies are changing the way we live. At Newhall Park Primary School, we understand the vital role we play in teaching our pupils the skills to thrive in the digital world.
A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.
Computing Vision
Mrs Evans ‘We are all part of an increasingly digital world and new technologies are changing the way we live. As computing lead, I am able to support the role we play in teaching our children the skills to thrive in the ever changing and enhancing digital world. I enjoy leading computing because it allows me to help them develop critical skills that they will need in the future. Seeing children engage, problem solve and gain confidence in using digital tools is incredibly rewarding and I enjoy being a part of their journey as they explore new ways to learn.’
Department of Education
The teaching of computing at Newhall Park Primary enables our pupils to confidently solve problems, think computationally and embrace self-improvement. Pupils are assessed through three strands:
- Computer Science
- Digital Literacy
- Information Technology
Assessment in Computing at Newhall Park is through formative assessment by monitoring children’s progress against a set of statements which are specific to the three different strands of Computing. Teachers will use the Newhall Computing Assessment Statements to make a judgement on each pupil’s progress. This will be recorded during two data drops throughout the year.
