Calculation Policy
Newhall Park’s Calculation Policy sets out the strategies and progression we use to teach addition, subtraction, multiplication and division across the year groups. It provides a clear, consistent approach so that pupils build secure understanding step by step, moving from concrete resources to pictorial representations and finally to abstract methods. This ensures children develop confidence, accuracy and fluency in their calculations, as well as the ability to apply their skills to solve problems in a range of contexts. The policy also supports parents in understanding how maths is taught in school, so they can more effectively help their children at home.
